Long Exposure

Picture

My digital photography class was assigned to take photos focusing on long exposure utilizing different sources of light. Changing my shutter speed and aperture settings and using several different types of helpful tools (including flashlights, laser pointers, lighters, and WD40 in one case), I was able to take some really interesting photos.

Silhouettes

By using dark studios, spot lights, natural light, and backdrops like sheets, I was able to take silhouette pictures of several different subjects. To me, taking the right silhouette pictures had to do with finding strong sources of light (i.e. sunsets and sunrises, spot lights and other strong artificial light sources) and taking pictures of interesting subjects. All of the human subjects in my pictures tried to make unique poses and angles against the light shining through the sheets.

Sports Photography

For this sports photography assignment, my first challenge was finding the right sports to showcase. I got pictures of a Shorecrest running/track event called the "Scot Trot" and also from a couple of my friends playing basketball at the Horizon View Park. These sports allowed me to get shots with silhouettes, really interesting angles, and a lot of emotion (shown in the faces of some of the athletes I took shots of- especially at the Scot Trot). I added caption to all of my pictures in photoshop to give the viewer of the photo a little insight as to when and where the picture was taken as well as who was in each photo and what they were doing.
